Rainy Season Madness

I'm not sure how many days in a row it has been raining here in Springfield at this point. It's been several (and I'm sure several of us are looking for an opportunity to mow our lawns!!) This area experiences a good amount of rain during the Spring season, giving us some beautiful flowers to look at. But what about the house? Have you been keeping up with the necessary maintenance to prep your home for this much rain? Here are 3 things I suggest you do to keep you worry free as it keeps pouring outside.

CLEAN OUT THOSE GUTTERS

This is a home chore that gets overlooked A LOT! It may not seem like a big deal, but keeping moisture away from your home and it's foundation is a very big deal. When leaves get stuck in your gutters, it makes it hard for that water to be directed away from your home. Even if you have a cover on your gutters, still remove any natural debris that might have accumulated. The rain water needs to make it into those gutters and get directed away from the house.

INSPECT THE TREES

It's not uncommon for strong winds to accompany the rain from time to time. Before the wind has the opportunity to do any damage, take a look at your trees. Do you see any dead or damaged limbs. It's a good idea to trim those or hire someone to trim them so the strong winds don't cause a branch to go flying through one of your windows.

LEVEL YOUR HARD

Check for any areas that water might tend to puddle up when it rains. Fill these areas with more dirt or you could even consider having your yard leveled. This is especially important for any dips in the yard around your foundation. Water build up to a foundation can lead to flooding inside the home when it rains a lot.

Small maintenance projects now prevent big damage projects from happening in the future. It's always best to stay one step ahead of Missouri weather as a home owner.
