There are a select few in this world who look forward to moving, but for most of us it can be stress inducing and a source of chaos. Moving does take a lot of work. There are a lot of things to think about, but there are ways to keep stress levels down as you move your life from one house to another. These tips can help you stay ahead of the game and tackle moving day once it gets here.

1) AVOID PROCRASTINATION AT ALL COSTS

It's easy to think that packing won't take that long, this can wait until next week, I'll make those phone calls later, but this is a trap that you do not want to get stuck in. Moving always takes more time than we anticipate. It is a great idea to start planning your move 2 months before your actual moving day. Write down a checklist of the little things we tend to forget, like filling out an address change or getting utilities put into your name. Start packing items that are needed on a daily basis now. Live minimally so you can pack as many things as possible. Remember, this is a temporary time. You probably don't need your finest China in the next couple of months or your Halloween decor in December.

2) PACK AN ESSENTIALS BAG FOR YOUR OLD AND NEW HOME

Yes, I did suggest packing a back for the house you are getting ready to move out of. Moving can require a lot of back and forth. It doesn't get much worse than going back to your old home to grab some more boxes and realizing you have no toilet paper to go to the restroom. The same is true for when you are unloading boxes at your new home. That's why it's important to have a bag of essentials at each place. Include items like toilet paper, paper towels, deoderant, water bottles, protein bars, scissors, etc. Don't get caught making extra trips back and forth simply because you don't have the essentials with you.

3) LABEL YOUR BOXES

Have you ever had friends and family come to help you move and then realize you are so busy telling everybody where everything needs to go that you can't get much done? Or maybe someone picked up the heaviest box and hurt their back? This is why it is important to label your boxes. It creates efficiency and helps everyone determine what they can and cannot carry while unloading the moving truck. It is a good idea to include the room, fragile or not fragile, heavy or not heavy on each box. This doesn't have to be anything fancy, just grab a sharpie and write it right on the cardboard.

These are just a few tips that can make moving day run a bit smoother. Here are a few more resources to look into to prepare for the big day:
