Spring Home Maintenance Guide

Clean Your Gutters!
Whether you do it yourself or hire a professional, cleaning your gutters twice yearly is a MUST!
Get all of the leaves and debris out first, then get your garden house out and spray the remaining gunk, run the hose into your downspouts to assure a good stream is flowing thru them. If you are seeing shingle granules in your gutters, might need to call your roofer to come out and take a look.
Inspect Your Roof!
You might have a relationship with a local roofer who will come out for a small fee and inspect your roof or you can get your
binoculars out and do it yourself. Sealing nail pops, caulking around boots and checking for missing or curled shingles will save you
a roof leak in the future.
Repair Around Wood!
If you have wood trim or wood siding, it can rot and allow water to penetrate the under surface if not cared for properly. Scrape any peeling paint and clean well with a power
washer. Repair and repaint as needed. Wood rot under any circumstances is BAD!
Trim Trees and Bushes
Spring is a great time to trim trees and bushes away from the house before they flower or grow. Trim limbs at least 5-7 feet away from house. This will prevent squirrels
from running on your roof as well.

Ensure Good Drainage
Walk the perimeter and be sure the water is draining away from your home, not toward it. Winter may have eroded soil and guttering could be disconnected. Assure good drainage
and avoid water getting into your basement or crawlspace!
